December 15, 2014

This is the email and pics we got from Jarek yesterday. This must be the Jarek, I don't usually see. He was like this when he was a toddler but as he got older it kinda went away and I guess the mission is bringing this side of him back :)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well guess who got to be Santa Claus this week?!? Yup it was me!! It so much fun to be santa! I got to act in a play and I knew what I was suppose to do but unfortunatley the whole play was in Japanese so sometimes my acting was a little bit off but it was a really good play super funny and soo much fun!! We also went and caroled at a old people house/old persons house i dont know how to say it but it was a lot of fun singing in japanese is so much fun I love it, as missionaries we sung the first verse of silent night in English and there are 6 missionaries in our district the three people that know English are Me and my companion and our ZL from tahiti, so not that our voices are terrible or anything, average at best but when you throw in 3 Japanese singing as well lets just say that we did our best!! haha no but really it was pretty good!

Last P-day we went to the Asahiyama Zoo!! so much fun I just love the Zoo ehh it was ok there was some cool stuff but i feel like we could have gotten through the zoo so much faster if we didn't watch everything for soo long but I shouldn't complain should just enjoy every moment because transfer 1 is over on wednesday only 15 more to go, probably not gonna change and neither is my companion but still one transfer down time really does fly I can't believe it is P-day already!!

Most of our Investigators are moving along pretty slowly we have about three that are really progressing everytime that we meet with them and then we have about 4 more who either progress a little bit or just are really resistant to what we are saying but it is ok I love teaching and throwing my few words in every lesson!! Housing this week was fun every week gets better because I know how to say more and more, we pinged a house and a white dude came to the door and said `hey arent you guys LDS missionaries,.. I am a little busy right now but welcome to Asahikawa.` me and my companion were so baffled we didnt even know what to say haha. Another Split this week as well with Elder Roopina From Tahiti he is a really good missionary and he is almost dead he is on transfer 14 now and 15 on wednesday I wish he had longer cause he is really cool!! Anyways that is the big news for the week love you all hope life is great!!

Got this short email from Jarek this Sunday. He must really be enjoying his mission. Which is great!! Just miss him. Hard to see him growing up away from home and not being part of it :'(
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was another great week and a really fast week too!!! Every week just flies by it is soo crazy almost done with transfer 1 already time really does fly! This week was fun because I got to go on a split with Elder Dobashi it was a fun day because talking in Japanese is hard but we were able to communicate with his broken English and my broken Japanese!! That day was super fun because we got to do some sports dendo, we played ping pong with one of there investigators so that was a lot of fun we also had a 2 hour poem session with the sisters investigator team up lesson it was so interesting because I had absolutely no idea what was going on and they wanted me to share a poem too!!! They said English was fine but umm... for those that know me well they know that I have no talent when it comes to poems or anything that is artistic like that. So I just recited a memorized scripture Psalms chp 23 I thought it sounded cool plus they probably didn't have a clue what I said so it was ok.

I'm getting better at this housing thing I understand some stuff when people talk and I can respond sometimes now!! but there are still the houses when the person just goes off and I'm just like what but it is ok because it is fun!! We went to a recycle shop this week and there were some many cool things for really good prices there were Nintendo Wii's for 39 dollars I was totally blown away that was so cheap and there were Nintendo DS's for 19 soo cheap!! The temptation is real!!! hahah jk but ya this week was fun a lot of the usual stuff but a lot of fun stuff as well!

Wow the weeks really do fly by!! This week was awesome as usually it is always great when you having fun and completely immersed in the gospel! Hard work but still so worth it I just absolutely love the feeling of finishing a day and just being like no regrets left nothing on the field, that sort of feeling is my absolute favorite! We had the AP's at our appartment this week they are awesome they are super smart and just great missionaries I love them so much!! This week was a pretty normal week nothing extraordianry happened execpt we did get a new investigator to come to church yesterday his name is Onishi he is the happiest grandpa you would ever meet!!! I always make him laugh when I say Chinpun Kanpun which means gibberish he taught me that word so when ever he looks to me and says wakaru?? I respond, most of the time sukoshi wakaru kedo mada chinpun kanpun(i understood a little bit but still gibberish.) and he always laughs soo hard don't know why but I just love making him laugh it is awesome!!

This week was super warm actually a was super happy because of that. Tried this thing called a pizamon it is probably the closest thing to cheap pizza that I'm gonna get in Japan soo ya I was pretty happy when I tried that!! Also we got a goach(a meal) we an investigator this week he is getting us pizza so I was pretty happy when that happened I just love Japanese people!! But My favorite snack that I have had so far in Japan is miny pancake thing with syrup and butter in the middle they are just so delicous and and they are only a dollar!!

For Thanksgiving this week Me and Elder Horne when to H's Cafe which is this restaurant with a giant american Flag and we both got the biggest burgur that they had I have pictures of it so I will show them. But ya that was this week they go by so fast it is absolutely crazy!!

Anyways love you all hope everything is going great!!

November 17, 2014

Heard from Jarek yesterday. What a funny kid. I just had to laugh with him and then cried cuz we miss him so much. Just can't imagine him hopping around on one leg.

Week 2 in Japan is down we had a lot of fun this week! We had 2 different yoga classes very very interesting the first yoga class we hit our bodies for the first 20 or so minutes then it got a little bit normal with the usual yoga stuff but it still definately wasn't any kind of yoga class that I've ever done in America. The next yoga class was laughter yoga and this class oh jeez I don't even know how to explain it was just so wierd we basically just hopped around and laughed at each other that was super awkward for me but you just have to make the best out of that situation.

The weeks fly by in my opinion the days are sometimes super long and sleep I forgot what it feels like to sleep in with out a worry or a care. Hahah but anyways it was a pretty long week we had a lot of time to do housing, not gonna say that it is my fav. but its fun i guess, you get to meet a lot of interesting people so that is pretty fun, a lot of people will listen until you say you are a missionary then they say like oh religion i have no interest, and then you get the few people who tell you to go home or something like that. Then there are the really nice people that listen and after say I'm good. I think my favorite one so far is I'm house sitting i guess people do that in Japan or it is the poorest excuse I have ever heard!! haha

Well fun week still wish I could just speak this tough language! But Anyways love you all and I will send some pictures next week!

Good to hear AF is doing so well!! I hope I get to be a part of the baptisms but it seems like people accept and then it has to get postponed because they don't come to church enough but ya anyways I do teach english class every week it is pretty scary IDK i hate teaching small groups of people it is hard for me. I the food I have eaten has be good execpt one plate of food that had some kind of paste and raw tuna on top it was awful but I choked it down because I was starving. We really don't do all that much aside from street house and appointments. The weather is pretty accurate. There is about a foot that stuck to the ground but they do a pretty good job clearing the streets and the roads though. I ridden old bikes but we are on foot now until the end of winter so ya. I am doing well the language barrier is really tough though I just wish I were english speaking sometimes it would be so much easier for me i think sometimes.. Anyways I think that you send stuff the the mission home then they send it to the missionaries. I love you guys and sorry mom I will try to remember to put the name on the list I just copied and pasted last week and forget that I missed the name the week before.
Love you sooo much wish I had already been out for 23 months

November  9, 2014

First real email from Jarek since he has been in Japan. He is all grown up and I'm not there to see him. This is real tough for me. But I love that he is so excited to be there in Japan and has really enjoyed his first week there.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow it was an amazing first week I have absolutely no idea what is really going on I can pick up a some grammar and some vocab that I have learned but it really is amazing how little you actually know when you get here!!

We got to Japan wednesday night then thursday we had orientation until about 4 and after that we went and did some contacting I was super nervous to do the contacting it was hard too, because after you said something when they talked back you like don't understand what they said! Friday we split up and went to our different areas my first area is Asahikawa which is one of the coldest areas in the mission so im super excited for that. we have like 20 investigators right now!! We have had about 6 visits with investigators over the 3 days that I have been in Asahikawa I love visiting with the people the first visit the guy spoke really good english so i was able to speak a bit of english and that was really good. we went from one baptismal date to 3 baptismal dates so I guess I came at the right time haha but really I was able to testify a bit during those lessons where we set up the dates for baptism and it was awesome!! My companion and I taught the advanced English class on friday night, it was fun to speak english. On sunday I got to do a self intro in japanese and also bear my testimony I was super nervous for that but it was fun to do that!! I am so excited to be in Japan even though I don't know what is going on all the time I am so excited to be here right now!!

I used Chop sticks for the first time, I am not terrible at eating with them I was able to eat everything with them so that was good! Everything I have eaten so far has been absolutely delicious! My companion is Elder Horne, he is from Arizona and he as been out for 6 transfers he is on his 7th, he is really cool and he is super smart and a hard worker! We live with two other elders, Elder Roopinia and Elder Dobashi they are the zone leaders Elder Roopinia is from Tahiti and Elder Dobashi is from Saitama Japan. Our Apartment is the second biggest one in our mission so that is really nice.

I know this church is true and I know that with the Lord's help that I will be able to speak this language and help more people come unto Christ I love you all and hope everything is going great!!

Before Jarek left for Japan, he was able to call us from the airport and we talked to him for a few minutes. It was so good to hear his voice. We all took turns asking him questions. He said that he was excited but nervous because he knows he will be lost the first couple of months. He felt like food wise he would be ok. He was planning on getting a rice maker and then just frying eggs or something with it. Rice is pretty cheap there. He said he would try to be as frugal as possible. I told him not to worry. What a great kid!! Honestly, I'm not sure I would be able to do what he is doing but I wasn't as smart as him at that age either.  Okay, point taken :)

October 30, 2015

I can't believe it but Jarek has been at the MTC for 8 weeks.  He leaves for Sapporo, Japan on Monday.  Sure do miss that kid. Here is his last letter update from the MTC.

WOW!!! It has already been two months in the mission!! Time really flies and I have only been in the MTC about ready to get back to the real world were the real stuff happens! This week in the MTC was really good both of the Devotionals were really good as usual the one on sunday was about kind of like the power of the repentance for both us as missionaries but he had us think about it in the perspective of the investigator as well and when we did that it reminded me of the times that I have seen the power of the Atonement in my life and how great I felt at those times, it was also cool when he said that no matter what anyone has done we can receive help and be forgiven for what ever we have done. The Tuesday devotional was given by the Primary General President Rosemary Wixom; not gonna lie I totally thought she was going to talk to us like we were primary kids so I didn't think that it was going to be really applicable haha was I soooo wrong.. Her talk was about the our foundation which was really good because her two main points were from a song that we sung as children and the two lines for the song were 'I believe in our savior Jesus Christ' and 'His truth I will proclaim' These points were amazing for missionaries once we have received that testimony of Christ and what he has done for us, though we don't have a perfect knowledge, through our faith in his sacrifice we want to share his gospel and his atonement so that all of our brothers and sisters can receive and use these same things.

My Companion and I were chosen as missionaries for the people in your purpose workshop for all the new missionaries coming in, we got to go in front of everyone do a door approach and start a lesson for 5 minutes until the new missionaries took over what we started, before we started I was like finally I can teach a lesson in ENGLISH!!!! I was soo happy, then I was like crap I haven't taught in English for 2 months and I'm going to be in front of like 100 new missionaries who are looking to us as examples of good missionaries, I was so nervous it was so long since I have said the simple Japanese questions that I know, the first lesson went alright we got her to the point where she was telling us why she agreed to meet the missionaries and what religion had done for her in her life. The second one went even better except in the beginning where me and my companion both said his name wrong his name was Jose and his friend Pedro referred him so I asked if his name was Pedro when he answered the door because I totally forgot.. then my companion did the exact same thing when we sat down, hahah well that just shows that we are not perfect and it also shows that it doesn't matter if we don't say things perfect the spirit that we bring and when we follow what the spirit tells us to say we can get to a point where we can find out what they need from the gospel to help them in there lives.

For the First time our TRC skype session went pretty good right after the people and your purpose workshop lesson we went straight to the skype lesson we had nothing prepared because we were told we weren't going to teach but that lesson went really great we were able to testify of the Book of Mormon and me and my companion both shared a personal story about how family scripture study has helped our relationships with family, I felt the spirit really strong and felt that the spirit was guided all our our lessons that day!

I was able to see a couple of friends this week from AF I saw Brian Brinton he came in this wednesday and he got to see me teach in the people and purpose workshop so that was pretty cool, was also able to talk to Heather Kofford before the devotional on sunday it was cool to talk to her and I felt like I was in the MTC for a long time but she is learning 2 languages Tahitian and French and she is here for 12 weeks, 6 weeks a language so glad I'm just learning one even if it is one of the harder languages.

Those were the big things that happened this week anyways love you all hope that you are all doing great!!!!:)

October 23, 2014

Week 7 is down an in the books not a whole lot crazy happened this week. Our 2 devotionals this week were given by Chad Lewis which was so awesome it such a PUMP UP talk I enjoyed it very much makes me so excited to be absolutely lost in Japan. The Second talk was given by Elder Godoy Of the Seventy he spoke in conference as well, his talk was really good as well it was kind of like you need to do these thing so you can reach you potential and be the best missionary you can. The devotional always helps me get through the week they are always awesome and are something to look forward to.

The craziest thing that has happened this week happened today, I went of the MTC campus to a Foot Doctor to get an ingrown toenail removed It was pretty nasty he said it was a pretty bad one, it was about a centimeter wide, I'm going to tape it or staple it in my journal I think.

I get my flight plans tomorrow I think, I feel like I just got here but at the same time I feel like I have been here forever, I'm nervous to go to Japan but ready I feel like the best way for me to progress at this point is going to be in Japan. I got called as a Zone Leader this past week, we got a cell phone!!! The only functions it has is letting us call the front desk, and our Branch President can also contact us where ever we are. I hope that I can be an effective leader by example and be able to help those are struggling in the Zone.

Anyways Kind of a short update, but I love everyone, talk to you guys in a week!!

October 16, 2014

Another week down at the MTC and it really is still the exact same, the biggest change that we had so far was a TRC skype session with someone from Japan, we had the opportunity to teach Ikeda san. To be honest it was only ok because the headset that I was using was terrible so I like couldn't hear anything so it was hard for me to respond because I had no Idea what anyone was talking about. This week was really normal I guess you could say nothing like amazing happened it is just the usual MTC life.

I have been a little sick this week, I have a sore throat and a cough but i'm not complaining, its really not that bad. I don't really know what to talk about so i'm just telling you whats kinda going on while i'm here.

The devotional this week was on Satan and his different ways that he tempts us or brings us down 1.Direct Temptation 2. Contention 3. Counterfeits 4. Discouragement and the different ways to combat these various ways of temptation are serving others, working hard, exercise, eating good food, diligent prayers, and sometimes priesthood blessings when needed. What i have found since being at the MTC is when i am getting frustrated or angry at someone, ill say a prayer in my head, its really hard to stay mad when you are talking with your father in heaven, and though i'm not perfect at not being mad or frustrated the more I have tried to stay calm the better that I have become at doing it. One thing that Elder Lawrence  said was to pray often for the gift of discernment, I really liked this because I have never really ever prayed for that, but learning that you can pray for that kind of help so I can recognize when the spirit is guiding me in a lesson or helping me to make someones day better, also so that I can know when the Holy Ghost is testifying of truth. The other devotional that we had on Sunday was about all the new media that the church uses to bring more people to the church, I really liked that one because it showed some really big numbers referrals due to people watching these videos. They also told us that there is going to be a you tube commercial during Christmas about the real purpose of Christmas it looked really cool!!

Has anyone seen the movie "Meet the Mormons" I've seen the preview in class and heard a little bit about it I was just wondering if anyone saw it and thought that it was good?

WEEK 5

Another week in the MTC down it was a lot of fun conference weekend was great! I would have rather spent it with the family but the MTC is a definite close second. Also on our Sunday night Devotional we had Vai Sickahema come and speak to us he is a really good speaker and he had a lot of really cool missionary stories to share with us. Its really hard to write about the week in the MTC because nothing really changes the weekly basis, although during TRC which is basically like home teaching you get a volunteer and you teach them a doctrine in Japanese. This week for TRC we had the opportunity to teach a father and a son from Texas, they acted like they were Buddhist and we taught them just the basics and we actually got to talk about Joesph Smith so i was able to share the first vision so that was pretty cool.

We got new kids so we have been teaching them the ropes and stuff. They are all pretty good so far. Our district is doing pretty good aside from the one kid who won't try very hard we are all learning and progressing really good, there are kids who are ahead but for the most part everyone is pretty close to everyone. I have learned a lot of vocab and basically know all the vocab that has to do with the church I really need to stress the grammar structure so that I express myself better, and when i say that i have a lot of the church vocab it means the the words and vocab that is used to teach the first 5 lessons in PMG and commitments, it is really amazing how much i feel that I have learned in such a short time. I am confident that I have learned a lot and will learn a lot more but i'm still so nervous for actually getting to Japan because I know that it is not only a culture shock but also I'll feel like i learned like no Japanese at all once I get to Japan, but I know that with time and the Lord on my side I will be able to become fluent and be able to preach in Japanese, Matt. 1:37 "For with god nothing shall be impossible." simple and my favorite scripture.

Thanks everyone for all your support and prayers on my behalf.

Elder Stevens

P.S. if anyone would like to i would love to hear a favorite quote or scripture and a brief explanation as to why it is your favorite.

Thursday, October 2, 2014

Well, today is Jarek's birthday so I sent him 2 dozens of doughnuts to share with his district and two ties and a pair of shorts. His grandma Blackhurst also sent him some money and treats. It's been hard to celebrate his bday with him not here. I miss him tonz today. You know, I understood but never quite grasp the parable about Jesus leaving the 99 sheep and going to find the one but I had a light bulb moment and I wasn't even thinking about it. I was just driving to one of my many destinations when I realized that Jesus was trying to say that he loved each one of those sheep so much and knew them each literally, and entirely that when the one had disappeared he felt the void that, that one filled. I guess in my mind I was thinking of them as just sheep and not realizing that it's hard not to miss someone when you love them entirely and they have a purpose in YOUR life, that when they are not there, there is a void that can't be filled til they are back.

I have my four kids and you would think that with only one of them gone the rest would still keep me busy enough that I wouldn't really noticed that one is gone but THAT IS NOT THE CASE. I feel the emptiness that Jarek fills. His smile, his sarcasm when I don't get something he said, his correcting me when I use teenage vocabulary wrong, the joy on his face when he eats the food I cook b/c we share a love for food, his willingness to do things even when I ask him to do it last minute.and really so much more. Him taking Kira to Harts every time he picks her up from school when I can't. Kira even says it's not the same as when Jarek takes her...ok, I get it. I had to experience the feeling to fully understand why Jesus would leave the 99 and go look for the 1 that is missing. Not that He love the 99 less just that any one soul that is lost is a huge deal because he loves them completely, knows them completely, and has a role in His plan therefore He wants to find them and bring them back to they can fill that emptiness. Whoa....I know...kinda deep coming from me.

His email from today Oct. 2nd:

 Hey everyone!

Thanks all for the Birthday Wishes! Week 4 is now in the books it was a lot of fun as usual. We had nothing really all that new this week just the usual devotionals class and Role-play. The biggest change to our role-play with our PI's is that we can't use our book that had pre-made sentences, I was kind of scared at the beginning but am glad that we did it. My goal for this week was to learn 42 new words a day and review the 42 from the other day so that it would be harder to forget them. I'm probably going to increase to 56 new words a day, as well as learning some kind of grammar structure everyday. I have probably one of the best knowledge of words in my class but I still struggle a bit putting it into the correct grammar structure, I can say a lot of simple things with ease, bearing testimony and praying with the vocab and grammar I know is pretty easy and I am almost to the point where I can say almost anything I want to in an English prayer, so that is pretty nice:) I was challenged by my teacher yesterday to find out how to ask deeper questions because I was able to one on one role play with him because we had an odd number in class because 3 Elders "were sick" (I don't think that the all the Elders were really sick 1 was he wouldn't miss class unless he really was like about to die, the other 2 really had poor excuses for being sick but o well that is my thinking I don't know how they feel so I can' judge them.) Back to the 1 on 1 role-play, I was able to ask really simple questions to make him think and answer but when we had our evaluation review he told me to work on asking more specific questions to help the investigator better.

The fun stuff for the week, My and my companion had an Ice cream eating contest on Sunday evening, he had 8 bowls of ice cream, I had 8 and 1/2, It was a fun competition I guess there were a lot of people watching, it was the first time that I have had ice cream in the MTC and probably the last time. One of the elders in our district set his alarm for 6 on Tuesday night and it went of Wednesday morning and Thursday morning because he couldn't find it was annoying but really funny because my companion jumped out of bed both times running to his alarm clock to turn it off because it was habit for him to do that, so it was pretty funny to watch him run to the clock try to turn it off but to no avail because it wasn't his alarm clock:) One of the elders said ai shitai to one of the teachers which means "I want to love you" and not just like really like someone but the biblical sense of 'Adam knew Eve' so our teacher laughed pretty hard, as well as the rest of us when we figured out what it meant.

Hmmm.... A song from heritage tours "I believe there are angels among us" it says 'Oooh I believe there are angels among us, sent down too us from somewhere up above, they come to you and me in our darkest hour to show us how to live, to teach us how to give, to guide us with the light of love.' I love this song and I was reminded of it by a talk that was giving on Tuesday by sis. Schweitzer she told us that we have angels around us to help us through the hard times, when I think back to learning this language and all the stuff I have done in just the short 4 weeks I have been here I know that the ones that we love who have passed on here helping me when its hard for me to do something, and I know that the Lord has played a huge role in helping me learn the language, there would be no way that I would be right here without the spirit and the Lord on my side. I know that angels and Loved ones are there to help all of us in our hardest times of life, also that all you need to do is ask God for help he wants to help you, he has so many blessings in store for everyone. The picture of 'Jesus at the Door' is one of my favorites, he wants to help us and bless us but there is no handle for him to open the door on his side, we have to answer the door figuratively and let him in so he can bless us.

I love you all!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, his email from last week, Last week September 25:

Another great week done in the MTC! Now officially the longest time I've been from home I think?? Anyway had a lot of great things happen, my companion and I had another fake investigator baptism, and I'll say it again, even though it is a fake baptism it feels so great to get someone to commit to baptism, it really just makes me so excited for a real baptism and progressing investigator (PI), our lessons are getting a lot better in nihongo (japanese) we are able to say a lot with out the book even though they are pretty simple sentence structure comments and questions being able to do a lot with out the book is crazy. We also had another great devotional we had M. Russell Ballard come and talk to us!! Two apostles in my 3 weeks here!! Its crazy and super awesome, his talk was so uplifting and he reminded me why i am here who i represent and what kind of job i am doing? it was a good self check as a well as confidence boost, I know I'm only three weeks in but it is good to be reminded to start good habits now so we can keep them later into our missions.

"watashi wa jibun no maue ni taiyo no kagayaki nimo massatte kagayaite hikari no hashira o mita. so shite, sono hikari no hashira wa shidai ni orite kite. So shite, sono hikari wa tsui ni watashi ni furisosoida. Hikari ga watashi no ue ni todomatta toki watashi wa hisshi ni tsukushigatai kagayaki to eiko o motsu futari no okata ga watashi no ue no kuchu ni tatta orareru no o mita. suru to sono uchi no ohitokata ga watashi ni katarikake, watashi no na o yobi betsu no okata o sashite. 'kore wa watashi no aisuru ko de aru, kara ni kikinasai' to iwareta."

My japanese spelling isn't perfect but i did memorize this, this week it is the first vision in nihongo. The spirit that is carried by this message is so strong, for every and especially missionaries memorized the first vision, it is such a strong testimony of reality of Joesph Smith and what happened in the grove, I swear every time I hear it i get goosebumps, and it doesn't even matter what language it is said in I still get goosebumps. I sang in the MTC choir and we sung "Joseph Smith's first Prayer" we sung it for Elder Ballard which was amazing, and he told us of the importance of this message.

I was also able to host this week, I hosted an Elder from Fiji he was going to Arizona, he was so cool and spiritual and just so grateful for everyting!! I was also able to see Elder Ethan Johnson while he was passing by I wish I would have been able to host him but at least I was able to see him.

Anyways those are the big highlights of the week, other wise it is the usual, 10 hours a day in the class learning how to teach and learning nihongo.

Love ya'll

Got this email from Jarek on September 18:

Week two is down and it was better than the first week. I learned a lot more Japanese. We have two new investigators to teach. It is a lot of fun to role play and every time i feel like we get a little bit better at speaking Japanese and get a bit more confident in making our own sentences. My companion and I are trying to learn 30 words a day as well as a new grammar principle and 4-5 phrases teaching the lesson from the preach my gospel. Watashi wa watashitachi ga Iesu Kirisuto no aganai ni yotte kanzen ni nareru to shitte imasu. I know that through Christ's Atonement we can become perfect. I love learning this language as hard as I feel it is all the time, we spend 10 hours a day learning different things not just Japanese but also important things we need to have when we teach and before we teach. We had a great Sunday Devotional we learned more in depth about the Plan of Salvation, the talk was giving by the president of the sunday school of the church. It was a great talk! On the Tuesday devotional Richard G. Scott spoke to us! It was so exciting to have an apostle here to speak to us!!! He spoke on the importance of prayer. My favorite line from the talk was "Pray is a Supernal Gift" Supernal meaning godly, and knowing that prayer is a godly gift and our way to communicate with god is a great thing. I Know that when you are praying you are speaking with god not just saying words. Prayer is huge on a mission, we pray all the time and I love it!

Nothing amazing really happened (aside from the great devotionals and always feeling the spirit.) my companion and I get along very well we haven't even really had any problems, we are also the cleanest people in our room! I know its hard to believe for some people but its true, My companion taught one of the people in our room how to roll socks together and he was so amazed by that I was laughing so hard, I thought that everyone knew how to do that:) That was just really funny! I am so grateful for parents who taught me these simple things so I don't look like a noob, and have to be taught these simple things by other people.

I'm so glad that my companion knows what hard work is and wants to be early and accomplish the same things that I want to. We have a guy in our district who tries to break any rule he can that won't kick him off his mission, I don't know if swearing is normal in Australia where he is from, but he swears a lot and we remind him that you aren't suppose to say those words but he doesn't really care and it really makes me mad sometimes. He also over sleeps every morning not one day since I have been here has he been out of bed before 6:45 and i'm not saying that is terrible but exact obedience brings miracles and when it says arise at 6:30 and everyone else can you can do it too. He has also been "sick" twice, and only in the morning to sleep longer, then in the afternoon he is fine. This really makes me mad because not only is he wasting his time, but he is also wasting he companions time who by the way is a super hard worker and is the DL for our district. Anyway that is just me kinda venting and telling you future missionaries what not to be. I know that we all struggle with things, but I know we can pray to the lord and he will help you he wants to bless you and sometimes you just have to ask and then do your part.

Well, I love all of you guys so much, hope you guys are having fun with everything!

This was the first letter we received from Jarek after dropping him off at the MTC on September 3. This letter is dated Sept.11

I did have a good first day even though it was the hardest day. It was really hard for me to hold back tears for the first time in my life but i tried my best. My daily routine is wake up at 625 pray then brush teeth. then from 640-730 we have gym time. 730-800 we have prep time for the day, then 800-830 is daily plan session with the comp, 830-1230 is personal comp and lang, plus a little bit of just extra study. then class for 3 hours, dinner then we teach an investigator in nihongo (japanese) we did that on the second day. as well as study for 2 and a half hours after that. then we leave the classroom at 930 prep for bed until 1015 and at 1015 its personal quiet time devotional. 1030 lights out. food is good enough to eat nothing to be excited about or anything. i just copied and pasted from dads email. that is our daily routine. I miss you guys and I wish i was home but i know that what im doing is right and the lord wants me doing it.

In my email to Jarek, I asked him two questions to help me with my talk for the adult session Stake Conference that President Brinton asked me to give:

To answer your questions What u do think we as a family did to help you to love and want to preach the gospel? And what din you think we can do now to even better hasten the Lord's work for the younger kids? for the first Love and support in our choices and in our activities really helped me want to serve, I think that the close bond that we had and being able to hang out as a family really helped as well. And for the second question there was a quote in our tuesday devotional "remember the gospel is the greatest gift received and given! Knowing that the Lords gospel is the greatest thing that we have received and knowing that it is also the greatest gift that we can give, would really be good to know at a young age to help to hasten the work because when we want everyone to have this gift is when sharing the gospel and hasten the lords work becomes a second nature and is what we want to do all the time to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of all mankind. I love you I hope this helped you!! and I know that your talk is going to be absolutely amazing! give me the details. the first pic is of my companion he is awesome then next is of my district. Ill try to take more pictures i have more but none really that i want to send.
